German Chocolate Cake

German Chocolate Cake is one one of my most requested desserts when getting together with friends. The frosting is to die for - it is addictive. It is a very pretty dessert!!

I have had the recipe forever - my recipe card says from the kitchen of General Foods. While I have occasionally made the actual cake from scratch, I must admit I normally make from a box. I always make three layers and use 8 to 8 1/2 inch pans. HOWEVER, the frosting is always from scratch and what makes this cake absolutely amazing:


Coconut - Pecan Frosting

Combine 1 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup sugar, 3 slightly beaten egg yolks, 1/2 cup butter or margarine and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Add 1 1/3 cups shredded coconut and 1 cup chopped pecans. Cool until thick enough to spread, beating occasionally.
